Established in 1889, the city of Ramseur was named for the youngest Confederate general of the Civil War, Stephen Dodson Ramseur and received incorporation as a city on March 13, 1895. Today, Ramseur is home to a population of approximately 1,700 residents who enjoy the friendly community atmosphere and pleasant area climate that produces hot, humid summers, moderately cold winters, and beautiful mild weather during the springtime and fall seasons.
Local area attractions include the Ramseur Community Museum that is housed in the historic Bank of Coleridge building and features exhibits and collections of historic artifacts and memorabilia relative to the history of Ramseur and surrounding area; and the Millstone Creek Orchards, a family owned and operated working orchard where guests can pick their own fruit and summer vegetables.
The Kermit G. Pell/Ramseur Lake Recreational Facility features a 127-acre lake and 9-acre park that is maintained and operated by the Ramseur Parks and Recreation Department. The facility includes boat launches, Jon boat rentals, a bait shop, playground, and picnic facilities that include shelters, picnic tables, and grills.
